Claire Wise - Main Profile
Permaculture has been an increasing influence and important part of my life since 1992 when I attended an ‘Introduction to Permaculture’ course, then in 1994 we hosted a similar course at the smallholding where we lived in Hawkchurch Devon.
Later - having moved to a small Devonshire seaside town, I completed my PDC at Ourganics in 2008. Then with Aranya as my tutor I completed my diploma in March 2014 in time to go travelling on my narrowboat.
I have attended training in organic growing, perennial vegetables, & countryside management, and I have a particular interest in zone 00 & mental wellbeing. More recently I have been learning about 'Compassion focused therapy'.
I was a town councillor for 4 years (nick-named ‘The Council’s Conscience’) & have been involved in transition town work.
I returned home in 2015 after eighteen months of narrowboat life. We renovated our boat ORA using Permaculture design as we cruised the inland waterways of England and Wales, selling her for a financial profit on our return. Since arriving home I have been working as receptionist at the local vets until 2020 when my services were required assisting with caring for my Mother who has dementia.. My commute is short so I am able to leave my car at home. We have purchased another narrowboat and spend time on ABRAXAS when time permits - we are working towards living afloat once again some time soon.
Low impact living, the natural world, zone 00, waste reduction & sewing from scraps.
De cluttering and maximising use
Curtain making (including patchwork from waste fabric)
Useful items sewn from scraps
Mending, altering & patching clothes
Property/boat ‘make-overs’ without waste
Carbon footprint reduction
I am currently designing alterations to our house plus encouraging wildlife to the garden - Aiming to obtain a greater yield and less waste from both.
